Should I get an upgrade version or "regular" version of VS .NET?

I'm eligible for an upgrade version of VS .NET because we own a license for VS6. Obviously, the upgrade version is cheaper. In trying to decide which to get, I have a few questions:
1-Do I need to have VS6 installed on the PC on which I install VS .NET?
2-Will I still be able to use VS6 to support existing VS6 developed applications? In other words, will I still be able to use VS6 and VS .NET separately?
3-Is there any advantage or disadvantage to getting one version or the other (upgrade vs. regular)?

Any other input or comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

-JHThe differing versions in VS and VS.NET should not interfer with end other.

The discount for a VS user is purely a marketing issue, in terms of what you will get
when you pruchase an upgrade/regular/student license in terms of whats on the CDs
will be exactly the same.

With the VS6 generation you are required to purchase the VS6 IDE in order
to obtain a license to use the compiler. With .NET the compiler and docs can be
freely obtained and used. You can download everything you need from the MS site.
Look for ".NET Framework".

If you are new to .NET then I would suggest taking a look the Web Matrix which is
a cut down VS.NET. Is really is very good and amazingly its for free. It also demands
less CPU/RAM resources than VS.NET full. Saying this, if you become a big .NET
user I would upgrade to the full VS.NET tool which is even better.
